“Tough times never last, only tough people do.” – Rober Schuller
When life gets tough, don’t forget to stop for a while and breathe. Yes, we need those little breaks but Don’t Quit. Never give up.
During these times, refocus and resume with greater power. Remember winners, unlike losers, stick it out until they reach their goal.
Tough times never last, only tough people do.
According to Rober Schuller, there are six principles in which you need to put your problems into perspective:
- 1. Every Human Being has problems
- 2. Every problem has a limited life span
- 3. Every problem holds positive possibilities
- 4. Every problem will change you
- 5. You can choose what your problem will do to you
- 6. There is a negative and positive reaction to a problem
What these all mean is you are what you decide. “Problems are not – stop signs. They are guidelines.” If you focus on problems, you will have more difficulties and worries. If you see it as an opportunity, you see possibilities instead of obstacles. It’s how we look at things that matter.
Take for example the story of Jack Ma, the richest man in China and the founder of Alibaba. This online e-commerce is worth more than Facebook and processes goods more than eBay and Amazon combined. However, the founder’s life story has never been easy since childhood. Born from a very poor family where his parents cannot even sustain a good education for him and his siblings, he strived to finish a Degree major in English. Thought it could land him a job he always wanted, rejection just seem to be part of his career. He tried to get in the Police Force, he was told he is no good. Trying his luck to work in KFC in China, he is the only one not hired out of 24 applicants. Isn’t this silly? If you were him what would you feel? Well, this continuous failing pushed him to venture into entrepreneurship. The first two businesses still failed. Except when he created Alibaba. Take note, not from his own penny but from investments of companies and people who see its long-term worth.
You see, when life closes a door on you maybe you just got the wrong key. It’s either you go out of your way to get the right key through learning or look for the right door with the key you’re holding.
In fact, cliche as it may sounds but it’s true when people say, “When a door is shut, you’re actually just lead to the right door.” Just as I wrote in my post “How to Feel Awesome Again in 3 Steps” I relate to this quotes about going through hard times and staying strong:
Life is a series of problem solving opportunities. The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you depending on how you respond to them. – Rick Warren
As a matter of fact, when Jack Ma was asked how does he deal with rejections in life, this is what he said –
Well, I think we have to get used to it.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
Life is being hard sometimes but we all get through it anyhow. Just remember all of the times you said you can’t make it but you did!
So go on. Keep going. Try to love what you do or what you have and everything will be brighter. Tell yourself –
There will never be another now – I’ll make the most of today.
There will never be another me – I’ll make the most of myself.
Google’s co-founder – Sergy Brin once said: “Tough times bring out the best parts of Silicon Valley.” So, I am convinced that tough times make the best out of us all.
This post is inspired by Robert Schuller’s book – “Tough Times Never Last, Only Tough People Do.“
I wish you all inspiration always.
